The Numbers
ABOUT THE NUMBERS
- In the 2015-2016 season, we took a step back, and focused our attention on fund-raising, and strategic plans for the long view. Taking time to slow down and take stock of our organization’s operational systems and administrative needs resulted in a wildly successful 2016-2017 season.
- YMTC's Development Committee placed an increased focus on partnering with new corporate sponsors and holding fundraising events to support our Tuition Assistance Program. Funds raised from foundations, community partners, and individual donors increased by over 15% from the previous year.
- We produced three very well received MainStage productions, and met our budgetary goals on all three productions. We were able to add more funds to our reserve at the end of this fiscal year than we ever have to date. We are well-positionedl for our 2017-2018 season, which looks to be a year of exciting growth.
EXPENSE COMPARISON
- We spent more on personnel, and on moving our primary staff from being contracted workers to employees.
- Our increased spending on productions was primarily investing in our professional teaching artists who mentor our students-- both on the stage and off
- We continue to increase our programming to offer more opportunities to student artists. The increase in expense is offset by a parallel increase in tuition.
Notes:
- Personnel also includes directors, instructors, and musicians
- Occupancy includes theater rental, tech and rehearsal space, build space, Aquatic Park operations & maintenance
- Other production expense includes sets, props, costumes, license fees, programs, publicity
TUITION ASSISTANCE
YMTC is committed to providing tuition assistance for our productions and workshops to students who demonstrate a strong financial need. Eligible students receive between 30 and 100% of tuition costs, based on availability of funds.
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
YMTC is working to create an inclusive artistic environment that reflects the rich diversity of the Bay Area community. We have been focusing our outreach and our fundraising efforts toward the goal of creating a more diverse organization from the Board level to our student body and our audiences. These efforts include school visits, free ticket programs, and the Crane Scholarship--now entering its third year-- that offers full scholarships and is specifically for students who come from underserved or underrepresented communities.
STUDENT SCOPE
YMTC is prides itself on welcoming a large scope of students, supporting the lifecycle of the artist from 7th grade through university within our training programs, and beyond university in our burgeoning alumni network opportunities.

GEOGRAPHY OF OUR COMMUNITY
YMTC is proud to draw students and audience members from throughout the Bay Area. We continue to reach out to diverse communities to ensure that YMTC remains a hub for students to interact with each other across community and cultural lines.
